Deal in works for purchase of 19th-century Watkinsville house

A retired educator who has spent years renovating and living in older homes is working out a deal to purchase and restore an 1800s Watkinsville home that at one time might have been sold piecemeal as architectural salvage.
James Carter, whose previous restoration projects included a former Presbyterian minister’s home in downtown Athens and a residence on Athens’ Hill Street — in addition to the 1800s Oglethorpe County home where he resides — is awaiting an upcoming Watkinsville City Council vote on a needed rezoning before he closes a purchase deal with Watkinsville
