Gov. Nathan Deal's legacy is now set.
In just 45 days we'll all begin paying higher taxes on gas and hotels -- thanks to Gov. Deal's largest tax hike in Georgia history.
Gov. Deal will be known as the Republican who finally admitted defeat on fiscally conservative policies.
With his actions, he proved that conservative rhetoric simply doesn't work.
The bad part is that tax-and-spend Deal just charged us $1 billion a year for more asphalt -- stretching to fund just the bare minimum of what the state needs to keep up with growth.
Even worse, Gov. Deal's tax hike hits working Georgians hardest. Gov. Deal's tax plan is designed to tax those who make the least the most.
And perhaps worst of all, Gov. Deal's tax hikes are likely to rise for generations. His motor fuel excise tax is tied to inflation and increased fuel efficiency. That means Gov. Deal's tax may increase at a rate of 6 percent in just the first two years.
When conservatives like Nathan Deal raise taxes, they make sure it hurts as much as possible.
There's a lesson here if we're willing to learn it.

Jeff Dantzler's arrests may be the best thing that ever happened to him

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

The booking photo is not to be placed on any web page that charges a fee for booking photo removal. Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
