Dr. Roy Thurman Ward, 92, Watkinsville, passed yesterday, funeral Saturday 2 pm Lord & Stephens

Dr. Roy Thurman Ward, known for his peacocks on Main Street, watercolors, photography, print making, sculptures, and his Japanese art collections among many other things, passed at age 92 Wednesday.

His services will be at 2 pm Saturday, April 11 at Lord & Stephens funeral home on Jimmy Daniell Road.

Part of his Watkinsville property was recently acquired for the Watkinsville Woods park the City has been working on for some time to turn into a walking tree-clad series of paths for the community.

James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
